Javits murder: Florence Obinim shares son’s troubling experience with school bullying

Gospel musician Florence Obinim has opened up about a troubling experience involving one of her children, revealing how she had to intervene after her son was repeatedly bullied by a schoolmate over his academic achievements.

The singer shared the experience during an interview on Adom TV on November 1, 2026, while reflecting on the murder of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong in the United States.

Florence said her son was a brilliant student who regularly received awards and recognition at school. However, rather than celebrating his achievements, a schoolmate identified as Tony allegedly targeted him with repeated physical attacks.

She recounted that her son would often return home complaining that the boy slapped him whenever they were walking home from school, particularly on days he had received an award.

According to Florence, her son initially fought back but eventually opened up to her about the repeated bullying. She advised him to avoid retaliating and instead report any further incidents to her.

The situation, however, reportedly took a more serious turn less than a month later when the same boy allegedly struck her son and scratched his face.

The incident prompted Florence to visit the school and demand that the authorities take action against the alleged bully. She said she warned that she would involve the police if the matter was not addressed.

She recalled that the teachers pleaded with her not to report the boy to the police, promising instead to dismiss him from the school.

Florence said her son was still young at the time and relied on her to step in whenever he faced such difficulties.

Her account has brought attention to the impact of school bullying and the responsibility of parents and school authorities to respond when children are repeatedly subjected to intimidation and physical attacks.
