Linda Mwananchi Hits Back at Aaron Cheruiyot Over Remarks on Kwale Roads, Details

The Linda Mwananchi Movement has criticised Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot following his remarks dismissing concerns raised by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna over the poor condition of roads in Kwale County.

The dispute emerged after Sifuna shared photographs showing the deteriorating state of roads in the coastal county, questioning the state of infrastructure and service delivery in the region.

Cheruiyot responded to Sifuna with the remarks, “Tandika Katiba upite juu,” loosely translated as “Spread the Constitution and drive over it.”

His response attracted criticism from Linda Mwananchi Head of Communications Pauline Njoroge, who accused the senator of showing disregard for constitutional provisions intended to address inequalities in the distribution of public resources.

In a statement issued on Monday, November 2, Njoroge reminded Cheruiyot that Article 204 of the Constitution establishes the Equalisation Fund to improve access to basic services in marginalised areas.

She argued that Kwale County was among the original beneficiaries of the fund, which was established to address historical disparities in access to essential services.

“Such arrogance from someone entrusted with upholding the constitution. Sifuna highlights the terrible roads in Kwale, and Cheruiyot mocks the Constitution. Yet Article 204 establishes the Equalisation Fund to improve basic services, including roads in marginalised areas. Kwale was among its original beneficiaries,” Njoroge stated.

She further defended Linda Mwananchi’s emphasis on constitutionalism, saying Kenyans deserved effective service delivery rather than political leaders dismissing concerns about public services.

Njoroge maintained that respect for the Constitution would remain a central pillar of the movement’s campaign ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“Kenyans deserve services delivered in accordance with our Constitution, not contempt. That is why a return to constitutionalism is a critical pillar of the Linda Mwananchi Movement campaign. Come 2027, the Katiba will light the path on which we walk,” she added.

The latest exchange comes amid growing political exchanges between leaders aligned with different camps as the country prepares for the 2027 elections.

Last week, Njoroge also distanced Linda Mwananchi from a social media post urging supporters to boycott Radio 47, clarifying that the Facebook account responsible was not affiliated with the movement.

She identified the movement’s official Facebook page as Linda Mwananchi, which had approximately 106,000 followers, and said efforts were underway to obtain verification.
