Trump Grants Emergency Visa to Ghanaian Mother After Son Javits Killed in Bronx

This is why Donald Trump quickly granted a US visa to Javits Frimpong’s mother.

Javits Frimpong was only 15. He left Ghana just one year ago to join his father in New York for a better life. He wanted to be a doctor.

On Thursday, October 29, around 9:30am, Javits was walking to his school, Dream Yard Preparatory School in the Bronx. Near Crotona Park and East 171st Street, three teenage boys in black clothes and ski masks attacked him. He was shot once in the stomach. He tried to run. Police rushed him to St Barnabas Hospital. He died.

His father, Thomas Frimpong, said his son had complained about bullying at school just days before he was killed. Police are still searching for the three suspects.

The boy died in America. His mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, was in Ghana. She could not say goodbye.

That is why New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called President Donald Trump directly.

On Saturday, October 31, Mamdani announced on X that after a phone call, President Trump agreed to immediately grant an emergency visa to the mother.

Mamdani said: “Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person. I just got off the phone with President Trump and he has agreed to grant her visa immediately.”

President Trump, who is known for very strict immigration rules, agreed to fast-track it. The decision means Doris can travel from Ghana to New York to see her son before his funeral.

Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, also announced that the Ghana government will pay for the mother’s full travel to the US.

1. It was a humanitarian emergency. A mother needed to bury her child.

2. The case shocked both countries. A Ghanaian boy who came to America for education was killed on his way to school.

3. The request came from the Mayor of New York. It was not a normal visa application. It was a direct appeal from the city where the crime happened.

The White House has not yet released an official statement, but the Mayor’s announcement has been confirmed by multiple news outlets in the US and Ghana.

Javits came to America for a better future. He only got one year. Now, because of one phone call, his mother will get the chance to say the last goodbye.
