Gachagua Reveals Why He Feared Using His Luxury Cars , Instead Used A Probox After Arriving in Kenya

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that he would have preferred travelling from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to his Wamunyoro residence in a Toyota Probox rather than using his expensive vehicles when he returned to Kenya from the United States.

Speaking in Kikuyu, Gachagua suggested that he was uncomfortable using his high-end cars, expressing a preference for a less conspicuous vehicle for the journey to his Nyeri home.

“Ndainukire na Probox kuuma kiharo kia ndege nginya mucii Wamunyoro,” he remarked, indicating that he would have travelled in a Probox from the airport all the way to Wamunyoro.

His remarks appeared to suggest that he had concerns about his safety and did not want the attention that could come with travelling in his expensive vehicles.

Gachagua returned to Kenya on October 20, 2026, after spending nearly two months in the United States, where he held a series of engagements with Kenyans living abroad.

He had departed Kenya on August 26 alongside his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, for a trip that took him to several American cities, including Spokane, Dallas and Boston.

His return was notably low-key, with no major public reception at JKIA. He subsequently travelled to his Wamunyoro home, which has increasingly become a centre of political activity for the former Deputy President and his DCP allies.

The Probox remark has now offered a glimpse into Gachagua’s thinking about the circumstances surrounding his return, with the opposition leader suggesting that he would have felt more comfortable making the journey in an ordinary vehicle.
