On Friday, October 29, 2026, Solomon Otimo, a former student of Lugari Boys Secondary School in Kakamega, began a journey from Matete Village to Nairobi at around 4 am, hoping to arrive safely for a friend’s wedding scheduled for Saturday, October 31.

The journey was expected to be a happy occasion as Solomon and his wife, Christine, together with other friends and teachers, looked forward to attending the wedding and celebrating with their loved ones.

However, what began as an exciting journey turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when the group reached the Timboroa area, where a serious road accident occurred.

According to reports, a North Rift Matatu, a 14-seater vehicle heading towards Nakuru, was involved in a head-on collision with a trailer that reportedly veered off the road, triggering a multiple-vehicle accident.

The impact of the collision was devastating, leaving several people trapped inside the wreckage as rescuers and members of the public rushed to help those involved.

Eyewitnesses who arrived at the scene described a disturbing situation, with blood reportedly seen inside the matatu as efforts were made to remove passengers from the wreckage.

Some of the survivors sustained serious injuries and were left in critical condition. The severity of the crash reportedly left several passengers with broken hands and legs, highlighting the force of the collision.
