Kennedy Agyapong: NPP Figure Remains in the Spotlight as Ghana’s Political Landscape Evolves
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a prominent member of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), continues to attract public attention because of his political influence, outspoken views and long-standing involvement in the country’s political affairs.
Agyapong, who previously served as Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has built a strong political following through his direct communication style and frequent commentary on national issues. Over the years, he has become one of the recognisable figures within the NPP, particularly among supporters who appreciate his approach to political leadership.
Recent developments surrounding Agyapong have brought renewed attention to his relationship with the party’s leadership. In June 2026, the NPP referred petitions against him to its National Disciplinary Committee following concerns about some of his public statements.
On October 5, 2026, newly elected NPP Third Vice Chairperson Nana Akomea disclosed that the disciplinary committee had not yet submitted its report. He explained that the committee had initially been given two weeks but later received an extension.
Speaking to Joy News, Akomea said the party would await the committee’s recommendations before taking further action. He also indicated that the NPP remained open to reconciliation, provided there was a willingness from both sides to engage.
The issue has become an important discussion within the opposition party as it works to rebuild its structures and strengthen unity ahead of future elections.
Agyapong’s political future and his relationship with the party leadership will therefore remain subjects of public interest. However, the final outcome of the disciplinary process will depend on the committee’s findings and the subsequent decision of the party’s National Council.
For now, attention remains on whether the NPP leadership and the outspoken politician can resolve their differences and work together again.
