Government to Pay Travel Costs for Javits Frimpong’s Mother to Attend US Funeral – Ablakwa
According to a report by Citinews on Sunday, 1, 2026, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that the government will fully finance the trip of Doris Adu Gyamfi, mother of murdered 15-year-old Ghanaian Javits Frimpong, to the United States to attend her son’s funeral.
The decision follows an intervention by New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, which reportedly led to US President Donald Trump granting the bereaved mother an immediate visa to travel to the country.
Mr Ablakwa disclosed that he had personally spoken with Madam Adu Gyamfi and directed officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide the necessary assistance throughout the visa application process.
He acknowledged the immense pain the mother was experiencing following the death of her son and assured her that the government would do everything possible to facilitate her journey to the United States.
In a statement shared on social media on Saturday, October 31, the Foreign Affairs Minister said the Mahama administration would bear all expenses associated with her travel.
He added that the government was also prepared to provide financial assistance towards organising a befitting funeral for the deceased teenager.
Mr Ablakwa welcomed President Trump’s decision to facilitate the visa process and praised Mayor Mamdani for his involvement in securing the arrangement.
The minister further assured the family that the government would continue collaborating with the relevant authorities to ensure that justice is pursued in connection with Javits Frimpong’s murder.
The government’s intervention is aimed at supporting the bereaved mother during the difficult period and ensuring she has the opportunity to travel to the United States to give her son a final farewell.
