Ruto Makes 2 New Appointments, Names Former Senator to Key Position

President William Ruto has appointed two new chairpersons to key government institutions, with Ali Wario and former Embu Senator Peter Njeru Ndwiga taking up leadership positions at the Kenya National Council for Population and Development and the Coffee Board of Kenya, respectively.

The appointments were announced in a gazette notice dated Friday, October 30, 2026, with both officials set to serve three-year terms.

Wario has been appointed the non-executive chairperson of the Kenya National Council for Population and Development, effective October 30. The council plays a role in population policy, research and development planning in the country.

His appointment places him at the helm of an institution involved in advising on population-related matters and supporting the integration of population concerns into national development programmes.

Ndwiga, who previously served as Embu Senator, has been named the non-executive chairperson of the Coffee Board of Kenya for a similar three-year period beginning October 30.

His appointment comes at a time when the coffee sector remains an important source of income for farmers and a contributor to Kenya’s agricultural economy. The Coffee Board is involved in regulating and promoting the industry.

The gazette notice also revoked an earlier appointment identified as Gazette Notice No. 14143 of 2026 in relation to the Coffee Board leadership.

Beyond the two presidential appointments, other government institutions have also received new leadership and board members.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi appointed Peter Kagia as chairperson of the Insurance Institute of Kenya Council for three years.

He also named George Ogutu, Jane Onimo, Christine Ronga, Agnes Macharia, Carolyne Ayiro, Michael Omondi and Elijah Githinji as council members.

Meanwhile, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba appointed Gideon John Kamau Maina to the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service Board for a three-year term.

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul also reappointed Noah Lokamar and Jeremiah Sang as members of the Kerio Valley Development Authority for one year.

The latest changes follow Ruto’s recent appointment of former Coast Regional Commissioner Nelson Marwa as chairperson of the Nairobi Rivers Commission for three years.

Marwa replaced Bishop Margaret Wanjiru after the President revoked her appointment in a gazette notice published on October 16, 2026.

The latest appointments form part of ongoing changes in the leadership of public institutions responsible for agriculture, population planning, insurance and other sectors.
