George Ruto’s Driver Lenny Makes Surprise Move, Unveils Football Match for Nairobi Nganya Drivers

Nairobi’s famous nganya culture is preparing for a new kind of competition after Lenny Mmoja, the driver of George Ruto’s Mood matatu, announced plans for a football match between drivers from Embakasi and Kayole Junction.

The match is scheduled for Sunday, November 8, 2026, with drivers from Embakasi’s Route 33 expected to face their counterparts from Kayole Junction’s Route 39. Lenny confirmed the plans in a TikTok video shared on Saturday, October 31, according to K24 Digital.

Under the proposed arrangement, Lenny will help organise the Embakasi team, while Alkaline, a driver associated with Kayole Junction, will coordinate the opposing side. The two groups are known among matatu enthusiasts for their customised vehicles and vibrant street culture.

Lenny admitted that the Embakasi team was yet to be fully assembled, although several drivers were available for selection. He mentioned Driver Sule and Kichele as some of the drivers who could feature in the contest.

The Mood driver also revealed that he intended to wear the number 11 jersey, while Driver Sule was expected to take number seven. Lenny expressed confidence that the match would take place after the drivers completed their previously scheduled road trips.

The organisers had considered holding the game earlier but decided to allow time for existing transport commitments to be completed first.

The planned fixture will give the drivers an opportunity to meet on the football pitch, taking their competition beyond the customised matatus and entertainment culture that have made their routes popular among Nairobi’s youth.
