Sarkodie Fears Kumasi Rapperholic Concert May End Due to High NSA Charges

Sarkodie has expressed concern that the future of the Rapperholic concert in Kumasi could be in jeopardy due to the high fees charged by the National Sports Authority (NSA). The celebrated rapper made his feelings known while reacting to a revelation by NY DJ that the NSA charged approximately GHC400,000 for the event to be held at the Baba Yara Stadium.

According to Sarkodie, he and his team questioned whether the Kumasi edition of Rapperholic would be able to continue given the financial burden imposed by the charges. He disclosed that they paid almost three times what they paid for the previous year’s event, describing the increase as alarming and unsustainable.

The rapper appealed to the authorities to be more reasonable with the fees, explaining that keeping the economic-boosting event in Kumasi depends on affordable charges. He noted that the concert contributes to the local economy and brings significant benefits to the city, and therefore should not be priced out of reach.

Sarkodie’s reaction came after NY DJ shared details of the hefty sum the NSA demanded for the use of the Baba Yara Stadium. The disclosure sparked discussion about the cost of hosting major events at state-owned facilities and the impact such charges have on the entertainment industry.

The rapper’s plea highlights the challenges event organizers face in sustaining large-scale concerts in Ghana, particularly outside Accra. He stressed that without reasonable fees, events like Rapperholic that boost tourism and economic activity in Kumasi could be forced to end.

Sarkodie’s comments have drawn attention to the broader issue of event costs and the need for authorities to support the creative industry by making public venues more accessible and affordable for organizers.
