APC, Opposition Party Supporters Clash in Katsina, Leaving One Killed, Dozens Injured

According to report by Nigerian Tribune on Saturday, October 31, 2026, one person has reportedly been killed, while dozens of others sustained injuries following a violent confrontation involving supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and suspected opposition party supporters in Katsina State.

The incident occurred on Saturday, October 31, 2026, in Yankara, Faskari Local Government Area, when some youths reportedly blocked the convoy of Governor Dikko Umar Radda, who was travelling to Faskari town for a political campaign.

Residents and eyewitnesses said the confrontation began when the governor’s convoy coincidentally arrived in the community while children participating in a Maulud procession were celebrating on the highway.

According to the residents, some APC youths reportedly stepped out of their vehicles to manage the crowd and create a clear passage for the governor’s convoy.

However, their actions allegedly provoked some opposition supporters who were standing along the roadside.

A resident, Saleh Bala, who spoke with a Nigerian Tribune correspondent, explained that shortly after the governor’s vehicle passed through the community, some youths began chanting, “Ba mu yi,” which translates to “We are not supporting.”

The situation reportedly escalated when some APC supporters travelling with the convoy engaged the youths in a violent confrontation, resulting in one death and several injuries.

Bala alleged that the APC supporters attacked residents with sticks, knives and machetes. He also accused them of looting shops, point-of-sale (POS) centres and mobile phone charging outlets.

He further claimed that the attackers broke into residential buildings, destroyed properties and damaged vehicles belonging to innocent residents.

According to him, a campaign vehicle belonging to the APC was among the vehicles set ablaze, while several others in the governor’s convoy were also vandalised.

The latest violence comes barely three days after a similar confrontation occurred in Malumfashi Local Government Area when Governor Radda was travelling to Funtua to commence his re-election campaign.

Following that incident, the APC condemned what it described as an attack, while the police announced the arrest of 14 suspects in connection with the violence.

However, neither the APC nor the police had issued an official statement on the latest incident in Yankara as of the time this report was filed.
