2027: Gwarzo, Kwankwaso Still Missing From INEC’s Updated Kano Candidates List
According to a report by Vanguard on Saturday, October 31, 2026, the names of Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Kano State, and his running mate, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, remain absent from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) updated final list of candidates for the 2027 elections.
Their names were again excluded in the latest list published by the electoral commission on Saturday, despite the inclusion of candidates from several other political parties contesting in the state.
Among those recognised by INEC are Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Murtala Sule Garo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abacha Muhammad Sani and Kibiya Yusuf Ado of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as well as Ibrahim Ali Amin and Shehu Abdulkadir Bari of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The continued omission comes after the NDC previously raised concerns over the absence of its governorship flagbearer and deputy from INEC’s initial publication.
The party had attributed the development to an administrative error involving the entry of its candidates’ information and indicated that it had received assurances that the issue would be corrected.
Dr Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, Secretary of the Kwankwasiyya Caucus and the party’s House of Representatives candidate in Kano, had earlier disclosed that the omission resulted from an error in recording the candidates’ details.
However, the commission’s latest publication has again left Gwarzo and Kwankwaso out of the list, leaving the NDC candidates’ status in the official register unresolved.
