Gwarzo, Kwankwaso Missing Again in INEC Updated Kano 2027 Governorship Candidates List
According to report by Vanguard on Saturday,, October 31, 2026, the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, and his running mate, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, have again been left out of the updated final list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The electoral commission published the revised list on Saturday, October 31, but the names of the NDC’s governorship candidates remained absent.
The development is coming despite the party’s earlier explanation that the omission of Gwarzo and Kwankwaso from the initial list was caused by an error in the process of entering their details.
While the NDC candidates were not included, INEC listed candidates of several other political parties participating in the Kano governorship election.
The parties featured include the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP), Action Alliance (AA), African Action Congress (AAC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), among others.
The APC’s candidates on the list include incumbent Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Murtala Sule Garo.
The PDP is represented by Abacha Muhammad Sani and Kibiya Yusuf Ado, while the ADC has Ibrahim Ali Amin and Shehu Abdulkadir Bari listed as its candidates.
The NDC had previously raised concerns over the absence of its candidates from the commission’s earlier publication. Dr Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, Secretary of the Kwankwasiyya Caucus and the NDC’s House of Representatives candidate in Kano, had said the party was assured that the omission was an administrative mistake.
Kofarmata explained that the party had been informed that an error occurred while the candidates’ information was being entered into the electoral commission’s records.
However, the latest publication shows that the names of Gwarzo and Kwankwaso have not been restored.
The continued omission could create fresh uncertainty for the NDC as preparations intensify for the 2027 Kano governorship contest, particularly as other parties and their candidates have been reflected in INEC’s updated list.
