Just Hours After Attending Sifuna’s Party Launch, Kalonzo Receives Unexpected News — Details

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has sent a strong message to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, warning him against expecting support from Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and his political allies ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Saturday, October 31, Murkomen questioned Kalonzo’s decision to associate himself with the Linda Mwananchi Movement, arguing that the former Vice President could be making a political mistake by expecting the group to support his presidential ambitions.

“If you think Sifuna and his team will support you, Kalonzo, you are completely mistaken,” Murkomen said.

His remarks come barely a day after Kalonzo attended the unveiling of the Linda Mwananchi Movement headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, where he received a hostile reception from some supporters.

The Wiper leader had attempted to remind the gathering that Sifuna’s presidential candidature should follow the proper party procedures, including the planned November 13 delegates’ meeting.

However, sections of the crowd interrupted his speech with chants of “Sifuna President”, forcing Sifuna to intervene and ask supporters to allow Kalonzo to speak.

Despite the incident, Kalonzo maintained that he was ready to support Sifuna if he emerged as the opposition’s preferred presidential candidate. He also insisted that the opposition needed consultations and sacrifice to defeat President William Ruto in 2027.

Murkomen, however, believes Kalonzo should reconsider his political direction and instead consider working with President Ruto.

The Interior CS argued that the government offered a better political environment for the experienced opposition leader, adding that Kalonzo deserved respect from his political partners.

He also criticised the conduct of supporters at the event, raising questions about political tolerance as the country moves closer to the next general election.

The latest exchange has added another layer to the debate surrounding opposition unity, particularly as Sifuna, Kalonzo and Rigathi Gachagua continue to feature prominently in discussions about a possible joint presidential candidate.

With different political ambitions emerging, will Kalonzo reconsider his alliance with Sifuna and his team?
