Ruto Unveils Stunning Progress of KSh42 Billion Bomas Project as New Convention Centre Takes Shape

President William Ruto has shared an update on the construction of the new Bomas International Convention Complex in Nairobi, offering Kenyans a glimpse of the major transformation taking place at the iconic facility.

In footage shared on Saturday, October 31, 2026, the Head of State showcased the progress made between June and October, with images revealing significant changes to the multi-billion-shilling project.

The latest footage captures construction workers undertaking roofing, exterior finishing and interior installation works as the massive structure gradually takes shape.

A comparison of aerial and ground level images from June and October shows the building’s growing framework, completed sections of roofing and visible improvements to its exterior appearance.

According to Ruto, the project is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen Nairobi’s position as a leading destination for international conferences, business meetings and major exhibitions.

The President noted that the Bomas International Convention Complex is being developed to make Nairobi a premier destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions.

The new facility is expected to accommodate approximately 11,000 delegates at a time, making it one of the major conference developments in the region.

Its planned facilities include a convention hall with a seating capacity of 5,000 people, a 3,500 seat auditorium and a ballroom capable of accommodating 2,500 guests.

Additional meeting rooms will also be available to support different local and international events.

The government expects the development to create new opportunities for the hospitality, tourism and transport sectors while attracting major international gatherings to Kenya.

Despite the visible progress, the KSh42 billion project has faced scrutiny over its construction timeline and funding.

Construction began in March 2025, with the government revising the completion deadline to December 31, 2026.

A government inspection conducted in July 2026 indicated that the main convention centre was 86.21 per cent complete, while the first phase of the overall project stood at 43.66 per cent, China Road and Bridge Corporation is undertaking the construction.

Ruto’s latest update provides a fresh look at the progress as the government pushes to complete the landmark development and strengthen Nairobi’s position as a major conference destination in Africa.
