Sarkodie mourns Javits Frimpong, urges parents to do better in raising children

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has paid tribute to Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong, the 15-year-old Ghanaian killed in the Bronx, New York, and used the moment to talk about how children are raised.

In a Facebook post, he sent love, prayers and strength to the teenager’s family, especially his mother and father.

“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” he wrote.

Javits was shot on Thursday, October 29, 2026, on his way to school. His death has drawn reactions from Ghanaians at home and abroad.

Sarkodie said Ghana has its difficulties, but he takes pride in how he and others were brought up, even in rough neighbourhoods.

“It’s almost alien to us because whenever something like that happens, it becomes major news. We announce and discuss almost every single case in the media, and as a people, we are always shocked and saddened by it.”

He said it seems to have become almost a regular occurrence in some parts of the West, which makes it scary for Ghanaians to feel safe there.

He also said he doesn’t know what kind of upbringing shapes children to become “so evil,” and suggested that some Black people abroad need to do better at raising their children and instilling the right values.
