“I can pay monthly I will do my best to return the money” – Lyfe tells €200,000 romance scam victim
According to a report by Ghanaweb on Friday, 30, 2026, Kumasi-based rapper Isaac Agyekum, known as Lyfe, has been linked to an alleged €200,000 romance scam involving a Dutch national, following an investigative documentary that reportedly traced the money to Ghana.
The scheme reportedly began in 2023, when a Dutch lawyer met a woman calling herself “Gifty” on a dating website. She said she lived in the United States and that her father owned properties worth over US$24 million, which could only be sold once taxes and other costs were settled.
Believing her, the man allegedly sent several payments by bank transfer and cryptocurrency, losing about €200,000.
Investigators say they followed portions of the money through Bitcoin wallets, cash transactions and bank accounts in the Netherlands, the United States and Ghana. A key lead reportedly came when roughly €70,000 was traced to Angelo, a Los Angeles car dealer and childhood friend of Lyfe.
The funds were allegedly sent to Angelo and his wife with instructions to buy a vehicle and ship it to Ghana. When investigators met the couple at a hotel, Angelo reportedly confirmed receiving the €70,000 but said he did not know it was connected to fraud. He claimed he believed he was helping a friend buy a car for an in-law.
To prove his innocence, Angelo reportedly placed a video call to Lyfe in Ghana. The victim and members of the investigative team then joined, and the exchange grew tense. The victim told the rapper he had lost about €200,000 and that investigators had evidence the money went to him. He also described Lyfe as a known personality in Kumasi and called him a “Sakawa boy.”
During the call, Lyfe reportedly acknowledged having the money and said he was willing to refund it, adding that he could pay monthly. Pressed for a firm repayment plan, he gave no clear commitment and ended the call.
Posts on social media have since claimed the victim is in contact with the FBI and that there are calls for the rapper’s arrest. These claims have not been independently verified, and it is unclear whether an official investigation or arrest warrant has been confirmed.
