Rigathi Gachagua: Here is How I Negotiated Ksh20 Million ANC Deal for Ruto

The political exchanges ahead of the 2027 General Election have taken another dramatic turn after Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua made fresh allegations against Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Gachagua claimed that Mudavadi surrendered his Amani National Congress (ANC) party to President William Ruto in a Ksh20 million deal that he personally negotiated on behalf of the Head of State.

Speaking on Friday, October 30, 2026, the former Deputy President boldly claimed that he was directly involved in the negotiations that led to the political arrangement.

“Personally, I was the one who negotiated with Mudavadi on behalf of Ruto. Ruto bought that party for Ksh20 million,” Gachagua alleged.

“Someone who sold a political party for Ksh20 million is lecturing Sifuna in what capacity? Who are you?” Gachagua posed.

His remarks appeared to be another attempt to challenge Mudavadi’s political standing as divisions and exchanges between rival political camps continue to intensify.

Mudavadi’s ANC officially merged with President Ruto’s UDA in January 2025, marking a significant development in Kenya’s political landscape.

On January 17, 2025, UDA Chairperson Cecil Mbarire announced the merger during a press briefing at State House, Nairobi.

She confirmed that the two parties would operate under the UDA banner, with ANC’s identity and symbols incorporated into the new party’s branding.

Among those appointed to various positions were Lamu Governor Issa Timamy as Deputy Party Leader, Kelvin Lunani as Vice Chairman and Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba as Deputy Secretary General.

Mbarire further announced that the newly merged party would undergo rebranding to reflect the incorporation of ANC’s identity.

Gachagua’s latest remarks have now brought renewed attention to the circumstances surrounding the merger, particularly his allegation that Ksh20 million changed hands during the negotiations.

However, the former Deputy President’s claim about the alleged payment remains an allegation and has not been independently established in the account provided.
