Hussein Mohammed ready to silence emotions in Hearts of Oak’s clash against former club Debibi United
Hearts of Oak midfielder Hussein Mohammed has vowed to put sentiment aside when he comes up against former club Debibi United FC in Sunday’s Ghana Premier League showdown.
The attacking midfielder is likely to play when Hearts of Oak visit Debibi Presby Park to face the newly promoted team in their Matchday 9 clash.
Mohammed says playing against his former club will be emotional, but he is focused on helping Hearts of Oak win again and continue their good start to the season.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, the midfielder acknowledged the personal meaning of the fixture but stressed that he must keep his feelings under control until the final whistle.
“Playing against Debibi United this week is going to be something else. Though it will be very, very emotional, given the kind of football we are playing at Hearts of Oak, I personally have to put those emotions aside and focus. After playing that game, I think I will bring out the emotional side,” he said.
The Phobians head into Sunday’s clash in fine form after recording three successive league victories.
Their latest success came last weekend, when they secured a narrow 1-0 win over Basake Holy Stars at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
That victory lifted the Accra giants to second place on the league table with 17 points from eight matches, level with leaders Medeama SC but behind on goal difference.
Hearts have also built their early-season success on a solid defensive record, having conceded just twice in their opening eight league fixtures.
Debibi United, on the other hand, will be desperate to bounce back after suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat to Bechem United last weekend.
The newly promoted side currently sit 16th with seven points and will look to make home advantage count as they attempt to halt the Phobians’ winning run.
