Cleophas Malala Stands Firm on Call for Kalonzo to Back Sifuna for President Despite Heavy Backlash
Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has doubled down on his recent controversial remarks concerning the 2027 opposition line-up, refusing to back down despite backlash from section of Wiper leaders.
Speaking today on Friday, October 30, 2026, Malala insisted that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka should shelf his own political ambitions and instead support Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s presidential bid.
Addressing the massive political storm sparked by his earlier declarations, Malala remained unfazed by his critics, stating that he has not changed his mind.
“The other day, people made a lot of noise because I said Kalonzo Musyoka should back Sifuna, and I have not changed my position,” Malala stated.
The initial remarks from the DCP Deputy Party Leader did not sit well with supporters of Kalonzo, who dismissed the proposal, maintaining that the former Vice President is a frontrunner for the country’s top seat in 2027.
Malala made this remark after Kalonzo was heckled earlier today, Friday, October 30, 2026, during the launch of the Linda Mwananchi Party Headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi.
Kalonzo addressed Sifuna as a party leader instead of a presidential candidate, something that caused an immediate uproar and relentless chants of “Sifuna! Sifuna!” from the crowd.
This unexpected commotion forced Kalonzo to temporarily pause his speech, and he was only able to return and finish his remarks when Sifuna stepped in and calmed the crowd.
Both Sifuna and Kalonzo are in the presidential race and are eying the opposition ticket to face President William Ruto at the ballot.
