Sifuna, Babu, Natembeya, Khalwale, Osotsi, Orengo Missing as Kalonzo, Wamalwa Join Gachagua in Juja.
Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has led the DCP party campaigns in Juja town where he has been accompanied by key opposition figures.
The former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has been accompanied by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa among others.
According to Facebook post by H.E. Rigathi Gachagua EGH posted 26 minutes ago, Gachagua says: “Together with Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, We have engaged the people of Juja outside the Constituency Party Office after officially opening it. The people shall….!”
Photos shared by Gachagua show huge crowd wearing green caps and DCP party colours, surrounding motorcade in Juja, Kiambu County. The crowd is seen carrying banners with Gachagua image. Over 1.3K likes and 126 comments in 26 minutes show massive interest.
But conspicuously missing from the Juja trip were Edwin Sifuna, Babu Owino, George Natembeya and Boni Khalwale, who were expected to be part of united opposition.
Earlier in the day, at Linda Mwananchi launch, Sifuna had to step in to save Kalonzo after crowd heckled Kalonzo when he tried to drum up support for himself. Sifuna urged supporters to let him finish speech. That incident is still trending.
Now, Sifuna’s absence in Juja raises questions. Is there a split in opposition? Sources say Sifuna, Babu and Natembeya are leaning towards Linda Mwananchi Movement while Kalonzo, Wamalwa and Gachagua are pushing for DCP alliance.
Gachagua, who launched Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) after falling out with President Ruto, is trying to build coalition with Kalonzo and Wamalwa ahead of 2027. Juja rally was meant to show their unity after opening DCP constituency office.
Kiambu is important battleground. Juja residents came out in large numbers, wearing green, showing Gachagua still has support in Mt Kenya despite being impeached.
Political analysts say absence of Sifuna, Babu Owino, Natembeya and Khalwale in Juja means opposition is not yet united. One group wants Linda Mwananchi, another wants DCP.
Kalonzo, who was heckled earlier, now appears to have chosen Gachagua camp over Sifuna camp, at least for today.
