Suspected kidnappers have abducted a housewife and shot her husband after invading their residence at Ogunti Camp in the Pelepe area of Akure, JP7South Local Council of Ondo State.
The heavily armed gunmen reportedly stormed the camp on Wednesday night and proceeded to the victims’ residence, where they shot the husband, Daniel Adesida, after he attempted to resist the abduction of his wife.
Residents said the farmer was left in a pool of blood while the assailants forcibly took his wife to an unknown destination.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Jimoh Abayomi, said Adesida was rescued and taken to the police clinic for medical treatment, adding that security operatives had secured the area.
According to him, the victim sustained a gunshot injury to his right hand during the incident.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed intensified patrols, bush-combing operations and intelligence gathering within the affected area and adjoining communities with a view to apprehending the fleeing suspects.
“The command assures residents that no effort will be spared in tracking down the perpetrators and bringing them to justice. Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest police station,” he said.
Ondo State has in recent weeks witnessed increasing security challenges, with cases of kidnapping and killings by armed men reported in several communities.
The situation has also sparked protests in some areas, with residents and youths accusing the government of failing in its responsibility to protect lives and property.
