U-17 WWC: Ghana to face Japan in quarter-finals
The Black Maidens of Ghana will take on Japan in the quarter-finals of the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after both sides secured victories in their respective Round of 16 matches.
The Black Maidens booked their place in the last eight following a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Argentina on Wednesday at the Mohammed VI Sports Complex in Morocco.
The encounter ended 1-1 after regulation time before Ghana held their nerve to win the shootout and advance to the quarter-finals.
Japan, meanwhile, secured their place in the last eight with a convincing 3-1 victory over Kenya on Thursday, setting up a meeting with the West African side.
The two teams will clash on Sunday, November 1, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00 GMT as they battle for a place in the semi-finals.
Ghana coach Joe Nana Adarkwa and his players will be hoping to build on their hard-fought victory over Argentina and continue their impressive run in the competition.
Despite a challenging start to the tournament, the Black Maidens will be determined to overcome the Japanese challenge and secure a historic place in the last four.
