Bobby Motaung Shares Update on Da Cruz

Bobby Motaung Backs Da Cruz as Kaizer Chiefs Call for Patience

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has thrown his support behind head coach Fernando Da Cruz, insisting that the Soweto giants must remain committed to their long-term vision despite growing pressure following a difficult start to the 2026/27 season.

The Amakhosi coach has faced increasing scrutiny from supporters after inconsistent performances and disappointing results in cup competitions raised questions about the club’s progress under his leadership.

However, Motaung believes that patience, stability and a clear football philosophy are essential if Chiefs are to return to their former glory.

Speaking on Marawa Sports Worldwide, the Chiefs football manager expressed satisfaction with Da Cruz’s work, highlighting the coach’s authority in the dressing room, tactical preparation and commitment to developing young players.

“I’m happy. My coach owns the change room, controls the change room. If you hear how people are fired in other clubs or whatever, we’re not in a circus game,” Motaung said, as reported by iDiski Times.

His comments underline the club’s determination to avoid making rushed decisions based solely on disappointing results.

Motaung explained that Chiefs appointed Da Cruz as part of a broader sporting project designed to deliver sustainable success rather than short-term improvements.

The club’s management believes that building a competitive team requires time, consistency and trust between the technical staff and the players.

Motaung also pointed to the opportunities given to young talents such as Wandile Duba and Mfundo Vilakazi as evidence of the coach’s commitment to developing the next generation of South African footballers.

According to the football manager, the technical team has been working hard behind the scenes to improve the squad’s tactical understanding and overall performance.

He also acknowledged that injuries have affected the team’s stability, suggesting that the return of several players could help Chiefs become more consistent as the campaign progresses.

Motaung further stressed that the Betway Premiership presents unique challenges, meaning Da Cruz needs sufficient time to understand the league’s demands and competitive environment.

Despite the club’s disappointing cup performances, Chiefs remain determined to implement their long-term strategy.

The pressure on Da Cruz increased following the club’s elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup, where they lost to Zambia’s Red Arrows on penalties after the tie ended level on aggregate.

Chiefs have since responded positively in domestic competition, defeating TS Galaxy 3-0 in the Carling Knockout to advance to the quarter-finals.

That victory provided a timely boost ahead of their highly anticipated Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.

For Da Cruz, the coming weeks will be crucial as he attempts to turn the club’s renewed backing into consistent results.

Motaung’s message is clear: Chiefs believe in their coach, but patience must eventually be rewarded with progress on the pitch.
