Da Cruz Confident Ahead of Soweto Derby Against Orlando Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz says his team is approaching the highly anticipated Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates with confidence after a productive week of training.

Speaking to SuperSport TV, Da Cruz described the fixture as one of the most important matches in South African football, highlighting its significance to supporters and the broader football community.

The Chiefs coach also suggested that the derby is among the biggest encounters on the African continent, noting how it captures the attention of the country and contributes to the growth of local football.

Da Cruz said he was pleased with the team’s preparations and believed the players were in a positive frame of mind ahead of the clash. However, he acknowledged that Pirates would present a difficult challenge given the quality and stature of their opponents.

Chiefs head into the derby encouraged by their recent 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Cup. The result, which saw them score three goals without conceding, has boosted confidence within the squad.

Despite the encouraging performance, Da Cruz stressed that his team must continue working to improve, even after securing victories.

He urged his players to carry their positive momentum into the derby while remaining focused on delivering a strong performance.

The encounter offers Chiefs an opportunity to build on their recent result, although Da Cruz recognises that facing Pirates will require discipline, determination and consistency.
