Ruto’s Latest Announcement Draws Public Attention as Kenya Prepares to Open New Stadium

President William Ruto has announced plans to officially open Kenya’s new stadium in Nairobi with a high-profile football match between German giants Bayern Munich and Dutch club Ajax on January 5, 2027.

The announcement, made on October 28, 2026, confirmed that the 60,000-seat facility at Talanta Sports City will be named Raila Odinga International Stadium. The decision comes as Kenya prepares to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Uganda and Tanzania. <Cite refs={[“turn704447news5″,”turn704447news6”]}/>

The opening match is expected to attract football fans from Kenya and other parts of Africa who want to watch two famous European clubs compete on Kenyan soil. Bayern Munich is among Germany’s most successful clubs, while Ajax has a long history of developing talented players and competing in European football.

The stadium is also expected to play an important role in Kenya’s preparations for AFCON 2027. Hosting a major international match could help demonstrate the country’s readiness to welcome football teams, officials and supporters from across the continent.

However, the facility must meet the necessary safety, security and operational requirements before hosting major tournaments.

For Kenyan football fans, the planned opening represents an exciting moment for local sports. If preparations proceed as expected, the match will offer an opportunity to showcase Kenya’s growing ambition to host international sporting events and attract visitors to the country.
