Babu Owino Now Claims Ruto Offered Him a Cabinet Secretary Position

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has claimed that President William Ruto personally offered him the Cabinet Secretary for Education position during the Gen Z protests in 2024, but he rejected the offer because of his political principles.

Speaking during an interview on Thee Alfa House YouTube channel, Owino said he declined to join the broad-based government even when the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga supported the arrangement.

Owino maintained that he was the only ODM member who refused to join the government, arguing that his political beliefs mattered more than securing a government position.

Ruto dismissed his Cabinet on July 11, 2024, following weeks of protests against the Finance Bill 2024 and widespread public discontent.

The MP also defended his decision to establish The Mwananchi Party, saying it would encourage young people to seek elective positions, including parliamentary seats and governorships. He cited previous political coalitions such as NARC, Jubilee, NASA and Azimio to argue that parties can work together without abandoning their identities.
