Nyesom Wike: He Is Crying For A Coalition Because The APC Government Has Not Done Well – Ikoawaji

In an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Asukewe Ikoawaji, a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), criticised the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government, arguing that its record had contributed to the growing discussion about political coalitions ahead of the 2027 general election.

Ikoawaji made the remarks while reacting to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike’s unveiling of 49 candidates under his rainbow coalition in Rivers State. The coalition comprises members of different political parties and is intended to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

According to Ikoawaji, “He is crying for a coalition because the APC government has not done well.” He argued that if the APC government and its governors had performed well, political leaders would not be discussing the need to form coalitions.

The NDC chieftain maintained that politics involves strategy and numbers, noting that the ruling party’s interest in political alliances reflected the importance of coalitions in the country’s political calculations ahead of the next election.

Ikoawaji also stated that Nigerians had experienced enough disappointments and were looking for solutions to the challenges facing the country. He stressed that his primary concern was the need to rescue Nigeria rather than advance the personal interests of individual politicians.

He concluded by emphasising the importance of bringing together people who are genuinely interested in addressing Nigeria’s challenges, maintaining that political cooperation should be driven by the desire to improve the lives of citizens.
