Mixed Feelings As Star Oil Announces New Fuel Prices
Star Oil has announced new fuel prices, with the revised rates taking effect at 8:00 a.m. following an update shared on the company’s social media page. Under the new pricing arrangement, Super is selling at GH¢16.45 per litre, while diesel is priced at GH¢17.95. Both products recorded reductions, whereas RON 95 increased to GH¢19.47 per litre.
The announcement generated mixed reactions among Ghanaian motorists and other social media users, many of whom expressed disappointment over what they considered insignificant reductions in fuel prices.
Several commenters argued that the adjustments were too small to provide meaningful relief to consumers struggling with transportation and other expenses. Some pointed out that the reduction in diesel prices was minimal, while the increase in RON 95 raised further concerns about the overall impact of the new prices on motorists.
Others questioned the extent of the reduction in Super prices, describing the adjustment as insufficient to make a noticeable difference at the fuel pumps. Some motorists also expressed frustration, explaining that the latest changes were unlikely to significantly reduce their daily transportation costs.
The announcement prompted some users to compare the new prices with the previous rates in an attempt to determine the actual savings. One commenter used the earlier Super price of GH¢16.64 to calculate a reduction of 19 pesewas per litre. Other users offered different estimates, ranging from one pesewa to five pesewas, reflecting confusion among some commenters about the exact price difference.
A number of social media users reacted humorously, using laughing emojis and sarcastic remarks to express their disbelief at the relatively small adjustments. Their responses highlighted the growing frustration among consumers who had hoped for more substantial reductions in fuel prices.
However, not all the comments were critical. One user commended Star Oil for its position in Ghana’s fuel market, while another, who identified as a regular customer, appealed to the company to recognise and reward customer loyalty.
Overall, the reactions suggest that although motorists welcome reductions in fuel prices, many remain dissatisfied when the changes offer only limited savings. The increase in RON 95, alongside the reductions in Super and diesel, has also contributed to mixed perceptions of the latest adjustment.
For many consumers, the main concern remains whether changes in fuel prices will translate into meaningful relief from the rising cost of transportation and other essential services. Until more significant reductions occur, the latest announcement may do little to ease the financial pressure facing motorists across Ghana.
