BREAKING: Cooking Gas Supply Rises 18% as New Price Per Kg Emerges
According to a report by Vanguard on Wednesday 28 October 2026; Domestic supply of cooking gas in Nigeria increased by 17.78 per cent to 4.5 million litres daily in September 2026, up from 3.7 million litres recorded in the same period in 2025.
Despite the increase in supply, the price of cooking gas rose by 7.14 per cent to ₦1,400 per kilogram in October, compared with ₦1,300 in September.
Former National President of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers, Oladapo Olatunbosun, attributed the growth in supply to improved local production but stressed the need for sustained investment and government support to prevent shortages.
He urged the government to support indigenous operators and major domestic producers, including Dangote Petroleum Refinery, to boost production and stabilise the market.
Similarly, National President of the Oil and Gas Services Providers Association of Nigeria, Mazi Colman Obasi, described the increase in supply as positive but warned that consumers must benefit through improved access and affordable prices.
Obasi explained that transportation, logistics, foreign exchange movements and other operating costs could prevent increased supply from translating into lower retail prices.
He stressed that investment in production and efficient distribution would be essential to improving availability and encouraging more Nigerian households to adopt cooking gas.
