Ruto Announces KSh800 Million Electricity Project to Connect 10,000 Homes in Machakos

President William Ruto has announced an investment of KSh800 million to connect 10,000 homes to electricity across Machakos County, as the government steps up efforts to expand access to power.

The initiative is expected to improve living standards, support small businesses and promote economic activities in communities that have remained without reliable electricity.

Speaking during his development tour of Machakos County, Ruto said the government plans to connect 650 households in Masinga Constituency to electricity by June 2027.

At Kagonde in Masinga Constituency, the President launched the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project covering Masaku and Kiembeni villages, targeting 200 homes.

The project is part of broader efforts to extend electricity to rural households and ensure more Kenyans benefit from the country’s expanding power network.

Access to electricity is expected to benefit residents by improving lighting in homes, supporting children’s studies and creating opportunities for businesses to operate more efficiently.

Small-scale traders and entrepreneurs could also benefit from reliable power to run equipment, preserve products and expand their activities.

The planned connections in Masinga are expected to support local development by bringing electricity closer to households and communities that need it.

The KSh800 million investment reflects the government’s continued focus on infrastructure development as a means of improving access to essential services and promoting inclusive economic growth.

Through the Last Mile Connectivity Programme, the government seeks to ensure that electricity reaches more homes, including those in rural and underserved areas.

Residents will now be looking forward to the implementation of the announced connections, with the Masinga households expected to benefit by June 2027.
