Davids Explains What Mabasa and Titus Need to Earn Bafana Call-Ups

Former Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids has explained what Tshegofatso Mabasa and Devin Titus must do to improve their chances of earning a place in the Bafana Bafana squad under head coach Pitso Mosimane.

The two South African attackers are currently playing for Moroccan club MAS Fes after moving abroad ahead of the 2026/27 season. Their performances in the Botola Pro League could provide an opportunity to attract the national coach’s attention as they seek to establish themselves at international level. FARPost +1

Speaking to FARPost, Davids stressed that talent alone would not be enough to secure selection. He believes both players must maintain a high standard throughout the season and help their club compete for major honours.

“I think to get into the Bafana team you need consistency. They have to show consistent performances in the league throughout the season,” Davids told FARPost.

“Of course, if they challenge for the league, \[domestic\] titles and the \[CAF\] Champions League as well, it will definitely help their chances. It’s not for me to tell coach Pitso who to choose, not only Mabasa and Titus but all players. I’m sure coach Pitso is looking for not only quality but consistent performances week in, week out.”

Davids also expressed confidence in Mabasa’s ability as a striker, describing him as a natural finisher who can score when given opportunities. The former Pirates coach believes the forward has the qualities needed to make an impact at MAS Fes.

Titus has also made an encouraging start in Morocco, contributing goals and assists while adapting to a new football environment. Davids noted that having another South African player alongside him could help ease the transition, particularly given the language and cultural differences. FARPost +1

Both players face competition for places in the national team, meaning their performances at club level will be important if they hope to impress Mosimane.

Davids’ message is clear: regular contributions, strong performances and success with MAS Fes could strengthen their international ambitions, although the final selection decisions remain with the Bafana Bafana coach.
