Phakelumthakathi seen with prison officials and inmates at Westville

Phakelumthakathi was reportedly at Westville Prison in Durban, where he sang with a large group of inmates during a visit captured in images circulating on social media. The traditional healer and anti-immigration activist, whose real name is Nkosikhona Ndabandaba, was shown alongside prison officials and addressing inmates in the prison yard. The post contrasts his prison visit with Ngizwe Mchunu’s reported meeting with the Ministers of Police and Justice on 26 October 2026 to discuss undocumented foreign nationals, accusing Mchunu of pursuing financial deals and political exposure while Phakelumthakathi focuses on gaining fame.

One unanswered point is what the purpose of the prison visit was, since the post does not say whether Phakelumthakathi was invited by prison authorities or whether he was there in his capacity as a traditional healer. The post also does not say when the visit took place or whether he commented on it afterwards. Those details matter because they would establish the context of the visit. Without them, the images show only him with the inmates, and the contrast with Mchunu rests on the poster’s interpretation.

Some viewers focused on the contrast between the two men, with some saying Phakelumthakathi was doing meaningful work while Mchunu pursued deals and exposure. Others said the criticism of Mchunu’s motives was unproven and that both men were entitled to meet whomever they chose. Some said the prison visit showed Phakelumthakathi’s popularity among inmates, while others questioned why he was singing with them.

What has not been settled is whether Mchunu has responded to the criticism or whether Phakelumthakathi has explained the purpose of his visit. The allegations about Mchunu’s motives remain unverified, and the post does not establish whether his meeting with the ministers produced any agreement. The public is waiting for more information, because the contrast between the two men has fuelled debate without any confirmation of what either was doing.
