Kenyans Burst Into Laughter as Ruto Names Two Things Running Through Sifuna’s Mind Ahead of 2027

President William Ruto has taken another swipe at Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other opposition leaders, questioning whether they have anything to offer Kenyans beyond political slogans calling for his removal from office.

“Mnafikiria SIFUNA wanafikiria kitu ingine apart from WANTAM na MUST GO?” Ruto was quoted as saying.

In English, the President was asking whether Sifuna and his allies think about anything other than the slogans “Wantam” and “Must Go,” which have become popular among critics of his administration.

The remarks come amid growing political exchanges between Ruto and Sifuna as leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna, who has become a prominent figure in the Linda Mwananchi movement, has criticised several government policies, including the affordable housing levy and contributions to the Social Health Authority.

The senator has argued that the government should reduce the financial pressure on workers and use public funds responsibly. He has also indicated that his political team wants to offer Kenyans a different approach to leadership.

Ruto, however, has repeatedly challenged the opposition to present clear policies instead of relying on slogans and criticism of his administration.

During political rallies in October, the President accused his opponents of lacking a development agenda and urged them to explain what they would do differently if elected.

The political exchanges reflect the growing contest over the country’s direction ahead of the next election, with both sides seeking to convince voters that their plans would address Kenya’s challenges.

Sifuna and his allies have continued to mobilise support through the Linda Mwananchi movement, while Ruto has defended his administration’s record in areas such as healthcare, housing, education and infrastructure.

The latest remarks are likely to add to the debate over whether political campaigns should focus more on policy proposals or opposition to the sitting government.

As the 2027 elections approach, Kenyans will be watching how leaders explain their plans on jobs, taxation, healthcare and the cost of living.
