Bad News for Kenyans Living in This Part of the Country as They Are Given an Ultimatum to Vacate
The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has issued a three-month notice to 68 people occupying its land in Jomvu, Mombasa County, warning that they risk eviction if they fail to leave within the given period.
In a public notice dated Tuesday, October 27, 2026, the electricity distributor identified the property as Land Reference Number Jomvu MN/V/222/2.
KPLC stated that the individuals were occupying the land without lawful authority, a right or a licence permitting them to remain there.
The company has directed the affected individuals to stop all activities on the property immediately as it moves to reclaim the land.
They have also been ordered to remove any buildings, structures and other developments they may have put up on the property.
Those who have planted crops or kept livestock on the land must also remove them before the deadline expires.
According to the notice, the 68 individuals have 90 days from the date of the announcement to comply with the instructions.
KPLC warned that it would proceed with eviction without issuing another notice once the three-month period ends. The company further stated that the affected individuals would bear the costs and risks associated with the exercise.
Copies of the notice were sent to the Deputy County Commissioner for Jomvu Sub-County and the Officer Commanding Police Division in Jomvu.
The move comes as public agencies continue taking steps to protect and reclaim land reserved for their operations and infrastructure.
For Kenya Power, protecting its property is important for its operations and the safe management of electricity infrastructure.
However, the notice places pressure on the affected individuals to make arrangements before the deadline, particularly those who have erected structures or planted crops on the property.
The announcement does not indicate whether alternative land or relocation assistance will be provided.
The next three months will determine whether the occupants comply with the notice or face the eviction process outlined by the company.
What do you think about KPLC’s decision to give the 68 individuals 90 days to vacate the land?
