Ruto Breaks Silence in Mwingi, Reassures Public on IEBC Live-Streaming
Speaking during a church service at AIC Kasina in Mwingi, Kitui County, President William Ruto firmly dismissed claims that the government plans to ban or restrict the live-streaming of election results during the 2027 General Election.
The Head of State characterized the allegations as unfounded propaganda pushed by opposition leaders attempting to incite unnecessary anxiety among the electorate.
Addressing congregation members and regional residents during his Ukambani tour, President Ruto maintained that Kenyan voters have a constitutional right to open, accessible, and transparent poll outcomes.
He emphasized that the administration has no intention of interfering with transmission mechanisms established by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The President’s reassurance follows growing public debate and intense scrutiny from political opponents over proposed legislative amendments regarding electoral result verification frameworks.
Opposition figures had raised concerns that statutory updates to the Elections Act might undermine direct public access to real-time voting tallies from polling stations.
In response to the opposition’s fears, Parliament and National Assembly leadership clarified that Section 39 of the Elections Act maintains mandatory provisions for electronic result streaming.
President Ruto reiterated this legal stance, urging his political rivals to refrain from spreading disinformation and instead focus on presenting constructive developmental policies to Kenyans.
The public declaration aims to bolster confidence in national electoral integrity as the country approaches the 2027 polls.
By directly rejecting assertions of a media or transmission blackout, President Ruto sought to neutralize a key opposition talking point and reassure international and local observers of a fair electoral process.
