Mt Kenya MP Says Ruto Will Be Re-elected for Second Term and Those Elected on DCP Will Join Him
Molo Member of Parliament Kimani Kuria has expressed confidence that President William Ruto will be re-elected in the upcoming General Election scheduled for Tuesday, August 10, 2027.
Speaking on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Kuria said leaders elected on the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ticket of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua would eventually join Ruto’s government.
Kuria said DCP leaders would abandon the opposition and head to State House to seek an audience with Ruto even before the President is sworn in for his second term.
“I am confident that Ruto will be elected for a second term, and those elected on a DCP ticket will be at State House looking for him even before he is sworn in,” Kuria said.
Kuria was elected on the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in the 2022 General Election. At the time, UDA was strong in Mt Kenya and won the majority of seats in the region.
The Molo MP has remained a staunch UDA member and an ally of President Ruto. He has not shown any signs of defecting to DCP, which is currently gaining ground in Mt Kenya.
Mt Kenya is one of the regions the opposition is banking on as it strategises to unseat Ruto. Gachagua has been working to consolidate the region under his leadership and hopes to deliver its votes to the opposition in the next polls.
Several leaders from Mt Kenya have also defected from UDA to DCP to seek re-election. This is because the ruling party is perceived to be losing ground in the vote rich region.
