Mt Kenya MP Claims that Kalonzo Rejected Running Mate Slot He Was Offered By Gachagua

Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi has claimed that Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka rejected a political deal offered by Rigathi Gachagua during a visit to the former Deputy President at his Wamunyoro residence on Monday.

According to a social media post by the Mt Kenya legislator, Kalonzo turned down an offer to serve as a running mate to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna alongside a 30 per cent government stake.

The lawmaker further alleged that Kalonzo issued an ultimatum, declaring that he would either take the top slot as the main presidential candidate or dismantle the partnership entirely. According to Wamumbi, the Wiper leader said that was his last visit to Wamunyoro and declared that any future talks must take place exclusively at his own residence.

The UDA MP also claimed that Gachagua and his political allies, whom he termed the “sharp boys” from his village, dismissed Kalonzo’s candidacy due to concerns over his commitment, concluding that the former Vice President could move on if he refuses to accept the offer.

“Kalonzo has been offered a deputy to Edwin Sifuna with 30% government stake which he has rejected,” Wamumbi stated. “He has said he is either the candidate or he break the cousins alliance. The sharp boys from my village have concluded that they can not have a lazy candidate na akitaka kwenda aende. Kalonzo has told them if they want to talk to him again, they visit him and that is the last time he has visited the village with good roads courtesy of WsR,” Wamumbi said.

Wamumbi’s claims come after Gachagua hosted both Sifuna and Kalonzo separately in a span of less than one week, as the opposition continues with its consultations ahead of the next general election.
