Obafemi Martins, Seyi Tinubu Join Forces to Empower Nigerian Youths Through Football
According to a post on X by TVC News on Monday, October 26, 2026, former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins is set to host the Renewed Hope Football Tournament – PBAT-KOH 2027, an initiative aimed at empowering Nigerian youths through grassroots football, mentorship, skills development and access to educational and career opportunities.
The tournament is being organised in partnership with the Obafemi Martins Foundation and the City Boy Movement, led by Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.
The initiative seeks to harness the potential of young Nigerians by providing opportunities for talent discovery, community engagement and personal development through football.
According to the organisers, the competition will cover Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, allowing aspiring footballers from different parts of the country to showcase their abilities and compete for recognition.
More than 5,000 Nigerian youths are expected to participate in the tournament, which will also feature football scouts from Europe. Players who distinguish themselves during the competition will have opportunities to attract international attention, while scholarships will be awarded to outstanding participants.
Beyond football, the programme is designed to provide a broader platform for youth empowerment through mentorship, technology, structured activities and community engagement forums.
The organisers also intend to create opportunities for young Nigerians to acquire relevant skills, build confidence and explore pathways to further education and employment.
The initiative reflects an effort to combine the popularity of football with practical development opportunities, particularly for young people seeking to advance their sporting careers and improve their prospects outside the game.
Martins, who previously played for Italian club Inter Milan and represented Nigeria at international level, is expected to play a leading role in the initiative through his foundation’s partnership with the City Boy Movement.
The tournament’s grand finale is scheduled for November 28, 2026, at the Onikan Stadium Arena in Lagos State. Outstanding participants from the competition are expected to gather at the venue for the concluding event.
