Kenyans React as Photos Emerge Revealing Stark Contrast Between Roads in Tseikuru and Wamunyoro

Kenyans have reacted after lawyer and political commentator Wahome Thuku shared photos comparing the roads leading to Rigathi Gachagua’s Wamunyoro home and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s rural residence in Tseikuru, Kitui County.

The comparison came on Monday, October 26, after Kalonzo visited the DCP leader Gachagua at his Wamunyoro home in Nyeri County, where the two leaders held discussions on opposition unity ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Photos and videos shared from the visit showed Kalonzo’s convoy driving along a tarmacked road as it approached Gachagua’s residence. Thuku shared images comparing the road to Wamunyoro with the one leading to Kalonzo’s home in Tseikuru, bringing attention to the condition of the road that has featured in political exchanges between Kalonzo and President William Ruto.

The issue gained further attention on Monday after Ruto directed a contractor working on the Kandwia-Kyuso-Tseikuru road project to extend tarmacking to a three-kilometre stretch leading to Kalonzo’s residence.

Speaking during the launch of the road project in Kitui County, Ruto said the section leading to the Wiper leader’s home should also be paved.

The President said Kalonzo was a Kenyan citizen who deserved to benefit from government development projects despite their political differences.

The road has been a point of disagreement between the two leaders, with Ruto previously questioning why Kalonzo’s rural home still had a dusty access road despite his long career in public service.

Kalonzo, however, has defended his record, saying he played a role in initiating major road projects during his time as Vice President under former President Mwai Kibaki.

In December 2025, the dispute intensified after Kalonzo claimed he had facilitated the engagement of Chinese contractor Sinohydro to construct the Kibwezi-Maua road corridor through Kitui, Mwingi and Tseikuru.
