Meet Sheila Odoyo: Beautiful Photos of Musician Whose Murder Suspect Was on the Run for 2 Years

A two-year search for the man suspected of killing Kenyan entertainer Sheila Odoyo has ended following his arrest in Tanzania, in a breakthrough that could help investigators advance the case and provide answers to her grieving family.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified the suspect as Jackson Otieno Bambo, also known as James Babu Olang, who is the husband of the deceased. He was arrested in Kirongwe, Shirati District, Tanzania, following intelligence-led investigations and cooperation between Kenyan and Tanzanian law enforcement agencies.

Odoyo was found dead inside her home in Athi River, Machakos County, on the morning of May 9, 2024. Her death prompted an investigation by detectives seeking to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and trace the person suspected of being responsible.

According to the DCI, investigators pursued multiple leads over nearly two years before receiving intelligence that placed the suspect in Tanzania. He was reportedly operating a club in Kirongwe, approximately 70 kilometres from the Muhuru border point, where detectives eventually tracked him down.

Officers from Athi River worked alongside detectives from Nyatike and Tanzanian law enforcement personnel in a coordinated operation that resulted in the arrest.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect was reportedly found in possession of a Tanzanian national identity card bearing the name James Babu Olang. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the document as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Following his arrest, he was booked at Nyatike Police Station before being transferred to Athi River Police Station, where he remains in custody pending arraignment to face a murder charge.

The arrest highlights the role of cross-border cooperation in tracking suspects believed to have moved beyond the reach of investigators in their home countries.

For Odoyo’s family and loved ones, the development offers hope that the case will progress through the courts. However, the arrest does not amount to a conviction, and the allegations against the suspect must be established through the judicial process.

The DCI has reiterated its commitment to pursuing serious criminal cases in cooperation with local and international law enforcement agencies. Bambo is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
