President Mahama Shócks Ghanaians As He Discredits Parliament From Holding The Peace Of The Nation
President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized that Ghana’s peace and stability are sustained not only by political leadership but also by the faith and prayers of its people.
Addressing participants at the National Day of Prayer held at Independence Square, Mahama said the country’s ability to remain united amid economic hardship and political differences demonstrates the importance of spirituality in national life. He described prayer as a significant factor in maintaining peace.
He praised religious leaders for consistently praying for Ghana, noting that their spiritual contributions complement the work of political leaders. According to Mahama, while politicians often focus on public discussions and policy debates, faith leaders seek divine wisdom and blessings for the nation.
The President warned that increasing political polarization could undermine national cohesion. He called on leaders to uphold integrity, humility, and selfless service, stressing that the country’s welfare must take precedence over individual interests and party loyalty.
The gathering brought together representatives of religious institutions, government, civil society, and the student community. Mahama urged young politicians in particular to lead with humility, serve the public selflessly, and recognize the importance of prayer.
He cautioned that Ghana must not take its peace for granted, especially as other countries in the West African sub-region face political turmoil and conflict. He explained that preserving stability requires ongoing dialogue, cooperation, and a shared determination to keep the country united.
Mahama further proposed an annual national week of fasting and prayer to thank God and seek continued peace and prosperity for Ghana. He encouraged all citizens to work together and remain committed to the nation’s future.
