Wiliete Coach Beto Bianchi Receives Call After Sundowns’ CAF Champions League Exit

Irvin Khoza Congratulates Wiliete Coach Beto Bianchi After Mamelodi Sundowns Exit

Wiliete SC head coach Beto Bianchi has revealed that Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza contacted him to congratulate him after the Angolan side eliminated Mamelodi Sundowns from the CAF Champions League.

According to Bianchi, Khoza reached out following Wiliete’s impressive achievement against the South African giants, who were among the teams expected to progress further in the continental competition. The reported phone call came after the Angolan club secured a historic place in the next round.

Wiliete booked their progression after holding Sundowns to a 1-1 draw in the second leg at Loftus Versfeld. The result proved decisive, allowing the Angolan outfit to advance on away goals and bring Sundowns’ Champions League campaign to an unexpected end.

The elimination represents a significant setback for Sundowns, who have established themselves as one of Africa’s leading clubs through their domestic dominance and consistent participation in continental competitions. Their exit will raise questions about their performance, particularly after failing to overcome an opponent determined to make history.

For Bianchi and his players, however, the achievement marks a major milestone. Wiliete have reached the CAF Champions League group stage for the first time in the club’s history, underlining their growing ambitions and ability to compete against more established teams.

Khoza’s reported gesture has also attracted attention because of his position at Orlando Pirates, one of South Africa’s most prominent football clubs. His decision to congratulate Bianchi highlights the recognition Wiliete have earned for their performance on the continental stage.

The achievement could provide Wiliete with renewed confidence as they prepare for the challenges ahead. Progressing to the group stage offers the Angolan club an opportunity to gain valuable experience and further establish its reputation in African football.

Meanwhile, Sundowns must turn their attention to their remaining commitments after suffering a disappointing continental exit.
