Ghana Tennis Federation congratulates Wheelchair champions after Ga Mantse Tournament

According to the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF), the national governing body has commended wheelchair tennis players and officials for their commitment and performance during the Ga Mantse Tennis Tournament.

In the men’s wheelchair division, Bernard Yawson emerged as champion after defeating runner-up Daniel Laryea. In the women’s event, Stacy Konadu Mensah secured the title, with Bridget Nartey finishing as runner-up. The GTF praised all four finalists and participating athletes for demonstrating high competitive standards and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

According to the Federation, including wheelchair tennis in the tournament—organized by Abusua—plays a critical role in advancing para-sports in Ghana by boosting athlete visibility and offering essential match practice.

Speaking on behalf of the GTF Board, Henry K. N. Larbi, National Coordinator of Ghana Wheelchair Tennis, commended the athletes while emphasizing the urgent need for sponsorship to help Ghanaian players compete internationally.

According to Larbi, limited financial support remains the primary barrier preventing athletes from participating in international ranking tournaments necessary to qualify for the LA2028 Paralympic Games. The costs associated with international travel, accommodation, registration fees, and specialized sports wheelchairs present significant challenges for the team.

The Ghana Tennis Federation has appealed to corporate organizations, government agencies, and private donors for financial support to help Ghanaian wheelchair tennis players earn ranking points ahead of LA2028.
