Geoffrey Mosiria Opens Up About Life After Losing Nairobi County Job, Reveals What He Plans Next

Geoffrey Mosiria has opened up about his life after losing his Nairobi County government position, revealing how his sudden departure from City Hall has changed his daily routine as he looks ahead to the 2027 General Election.

The former Nairobi County Chief Officer for Public Participation, Citizen Engagement and Customer Service shared his thoughts in a Facebook post on Sunday, October 25, just days after Governor Johnson Sakaja’s administration dismissed him.

Mosiria’s dismissal came on Wednesday, October 21, following his declaration that he intended to challenge Sakaja for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 elections.

In his Sunday post, Mosiria appeared to acknowledge the difficulties of adjusting to life outside public office, using a humorous Swahili expression to describe his experience.

“Sikua nimezoea kulala jameni!” he wrote, a remark suggesting that he was not accustomed to going without the comforts he had enjoyed while in office.

Despite the sudden change, Mosiria indicated that losing his county position would not stop him from engaging in community activities or supporting Nairobi residents.

He maintained that serving people remained his calling, signalling that he intended to continue participating in rescue operations and other initiatives aimed at helping vulnerable members of the public.

“Serving humanity has always been my calling, and no matter the circumstances, my heart will always be with the people,” he stated.

He concluded his message with a rallying call to Nairobi residents, declaring that there was still plenty of work to be done.

“Watu wa Kanairo, kazi bado ni mingi!” he added.

Mosiria’s departure from City Hall has attracted attention partly because of his political ambitions. His announcement that he would seek the Nairobi governorship placed him in a potential contest against Sakaja, who currently occupies the seat.

The development has also raised questions about the political direction Mosiria will take as he prepares for the next general election.

Following his dismissal, Nairobi County Secretary Machel Waikenda confirmed that Zipporah Njeri Mwangi, the Chief Officer for Culture, Arts and Tourism, would temporarily take over Mosiria’s responsibilities in an acting capacity.

In the days following his exit, Mosiria also referred to The 48 Laws of Power, suggesting that working too hard and potentially outshining one’s boss could have contributed to his predicament. However, this was his own interpretation of the circumstances surrounding his departure.

Sakaja’s administration characterised the changes as an administrative reorganisation. The information available in the report did not establish that Mosiria’s dismissal was a direct consequence of his gubernatorial ambitions.

Nevertheless, Mosiria appears determined to remain politically active. In his latest message, he expressed hope that Nairobi residents would give him an opportunity to serve them again in 2027.

His decision to continue engaging with the public could prove important as he seeks to build support beyond his former county office.

The Facebook post attracted numerous reactions, with some users encouraging him to remain committed to community service while others openly endorsed his political ambitions.

Lister Ogero urged Mosiria to continue serving humanity, linking public service to his religious convictions.

King Solomon Nyongesa encouraged supporters to demonstrate their backing for Mosiria’s gubernatorial ambitions by liking the post.

Another commenter, Ltisinyua Letaare, expressed optimism about the prospect of Mosiria becoming Nairobi governor, drawing a comparison with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s presidential ambitions.

Irene Kui also voiced support for Mosiria, arguing that he deserved an opportunity to lead Nairobi.

Meanwhile, Shadie Kipkoech offered political advice, suggesting that Mosiria consider joining Mike Sonko’s National Democratic Party (NEDP) and working with the former Nairobi governor’s Sonko Rescue Team to strengthen his community outreach efforts.

The suggestions reflected the different ways some residents believe Mosiria could position himself ahead of the 2027 elections.

For now, Mosiria has indicated that his focus remains on serving ordinary Nairobians, even without his former county government position.

Whether he can turn that continued public engagement into a successful gubernatorial campaign remains to be seen. His next political moves, the support he attracts and the direction of his grassroots activities could help determine his prospects in the race for City Hall.
