APC and Tinubu Regime Want Nigerians to Mistake a Packed Stadium for Nationwide Support’—Sowore

Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the large crowd that attended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna State.

According to a report by DynamoReports, Sowore made his position known in a post on his official X account on Saturday, October 24, 2026, where he questioned the significance of the turnout at the campaign event.

The APC held the campaign flag-off at Ranchers Bees Stadium in Kaduna, attracting a large number of party supporters and political leaders ahead of Tinubu’s arrival. The event marked the beginning of the party’s campaign activities as preparations intensify for the 2027 general election.

Reacting to the gathering, Sowore argued that the APC and the Tinubu administration should not present a packed stadium as proof of nationwide support for the president.

He maintained that the presence of a large crowd at a political rally does not necessarily mean that the majority of Nigerians support a candidate or the political party organising the event.

Sowore’s comments focused on the difference between mobilising supporters for a campaign rally and securing broader public acceptance across the country. He challenged the ruling party’s attempt, as he characterised it, to use the Kaduna turnout as an indication of Tinubu’s popularity nationwide.

The criticism comes as political parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential election, with rallies and public engagements expected to play important roles in their campaigns.

While large crowds at political events are often presented by parties as evidence of popularity and organisational strength, Sowore’s remarks highlight the argument that actual electoral support can only be determined through votes cast during an election.
