JUST IN: Police Launch Manhunt For Eastleigh Building Owner And Contractor After Collapse

Police has launched a manhunt for the owner of a building that collapsed in Eastleigh, Nairobi, as investigations continue into the incident that left several people feared trapped beneath the rubble.

In a statement released on Saturday, October 24, NPS said two survivors had been rescued following the collapse of the multi-storey building under construction along 9th Street on Friday, October 23.

Rescue teams quickly transported the injured to the hospital for medical care as they ramped up efforts to find and save any other potential survivors.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), they have taken charge of the situation, working alongside a multi-agency team that includes the Kenya Defence Forces, the Kenya Red Cross, emergency crews from Nairobi City County, and various other responders.

To aid in the search, heavy excavators, specialized search dogs, and trained rescue personnel have been deployed to the scene.

Authorities have requested that the public avoid Yusuf Haji Avenue and 9th Street to allow emergency responders to operate smoothly and safely.

In addition, a thorough investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the building’s collapse and to assess whether any construction laws were violated.

The agency has warned that anyone, whether individuals or companies, found guilty of negligence or breaching building regulation will face legal repercussions.

As efforts continue, families looking for missing loved ones are encouraged to visit the information desk set up by the Kenya Red Cross at the site. They can also reach out for help by dialing emergency number 1199.

The police expressed their heartfelt sympathy to those families with missing relatives, extended their wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident.
