Bad News for Sifuna as Unexpected Report Emerges About His Eligibility for the 2027 Presidential Bid
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has challenged Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna over his presidential ambitions, arguing that aspiring leaders need political experience, strong networks and support from across the country before seeking the country’s top seat.
Wetang’ula made the remarks on Friday, October 23, during a women’s empowerment event in Hamisi Constituency, Vihiga County. His comments come as political leaders continue positioning themselves ahead of the August 2027 General Election.
The Speaker urged Sifuna and other young politicians seeking the presidency to learn from Kenya’s political history instead of expecting to rise to State House after serving only a short time in elective office.
Wetang’ula cited former presidents Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta, alongside President William Ruto, as examples of leaders who spent years building their political careers before becoming president.
He argued that aspiring leaders must travel across the country, understand the needs of different communities and establish relationships with voters.
According to Wetang’ula, winning the presidency requires more than public attention or political ambition. He maintained that leaders need a strong national presence and a record of political engagement.
The Speaker also expressed support for Ruto’s re-election bid, urging residents of Western Kenya to back the President in the next election.
However, Sifuna has continued to promote his political ambitions and the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has attracted attention amid ongoing disagreements within the wider opposition.
The Nairobi senator has previously dismissed concerns about his experience, maintaining that younger leaders should also have an opportunity to seek the country’s highest office.
Wetang’ula’s latest remarks add to the growing political debate over who should challenge Ruto in 2027 and whether emerging political movements can build support across Kenya.
With the next general election approaching, the exchange highlights the differences between established politicians and younger leaders seeking national leadership.
Will Sifuna manage to convince voters across the country that he is ready to lead Kenya, or will experience remain a major issue in the 2027 presidential race?
