Meet The Owner Of Multi-billion Storey Building Collapsed In Eastleigh, Details

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has revealed that the 18-storey building that collapsed along 9th Street in Eastleigh was erected without county construction approvals, naming the family developers and technical professionals linked to the disaster.

Addressing the press on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Governor Sakaja disclosed that the property belongs to the estate of the late Wilson Mutia Musyoki.

While an application for a change of user was granted in 2024, a subsequent application submitted by developer on record John Mutia Musyoki to erect a 15-floor structure with a basement was never approved by City Hall.

”That application was never granted, meaning there is no approval for this construction,” Sakaja stated, condemning the developer for exceeding limits, ignoring county protocols, and allowing commercial tenant occupancy on lower floors while active construction continued above.

The governor identified physical planner Nathan Mutunga Kiti, architect Emmanuel Mwangi Maina, and Precise Civil Engineering Limited as the professional entities who oversaw the unapproved development.

In parallel records, the National Construction Authority (NCA) listed 9th Street Plaza Limited as the registered developer and Stromax Holdings E.A. Limited as the main contractor.

Meanwhile, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed that all 67 construction workers who were at the site during the collapse have been accounted for with 66 uninjured and one hospitalized in stable condition.

However, multi-agency teams continue searching the rubble for seven missing persons linked to the 11 commercial shops operating in the basement and ground levels.

Public regulatory authorities and law enforcement have vowed to prosecute all culpable developers, engineers, and planners involved.
