Photos: Huge Crowds Welcome President Ruto To Machakos As He Begins Ukambani Tour

President William Ruto arrived in Machakos County on Saturday morning, October 24, 2026, to begin a three-day development tour of the Ukambani region, with water supply and infrastructure projects featuring prominently on his agenda.

Photos shared during the visit showed Head of State addressing large crowds of residents who gathered along streets to welcome him as he toured the county.

During the visit, Ruto commissioned the KSh1.47 billion Mwala Cluster Water Supply Project, an initiative designed to address longstanding water shortages affecting communities in Machakos County.

According to the President, the project has the capacity to supply 6.6 million litres of water daily, providing access to clean and reliable water for approximately 137,400 people and 10 institutions across 10 towns.

The development is expected to ease the burden on households that have struggled to obtain sufficient water for domestic use and other daily activities.

Access to reliable water remains an important concern in several parts of the country, particularly in areas where residents depend on distant water points or irregular supplies.

Ruto also announced plans for the second phase of the project, which will involve a KSh500 million last-mile water connection programme.

The expansion is expected to extend water access to an additional 120,000 residents in Mwala Constituency, increasing the number of people who could benefit from the initiative.

The commissioning marked one of the key activities at the beginning of the President’s three-day tour, during which he is expected to highlight development projects and engage with residents across Ukambani.

The visit also attracted attention from residents who lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the President and listen to his address.
